To protect the health and safety of the state's residents, the Haryana Pollution Control Board, an agency of the Haryana State Government, administers and implements a variety of environmental legislation. The Haryana State Government formed the Haryana State Pollution Control Board in accordance with the Water Prevention and Control of Pollution Act. It was constructed at the time to conserve water. It now oversees the implementation of environmental laws in the state of Haryana.
