In response to the growing problem, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and other sports organizations began to implement anti-doping measures in the 1960s and 1970s. However, it was not until the formation of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in 1999 that a comprehensive, global approach to combating doping was established.
