Kumbukkal pepper is a very famous black pepper plant developed at kumbuckal nursery Kottayam by the innovative farmer K T Varghese. The high yielding, disease resistance, and all-weather compatibility of kumbuckal pepper plant make it unique. Diseases such as fast wilt (foot rot), slow wilt, and hollow berry are all prevented by the root system (pollu). It grows well in the mid-west, in rocky high-mountain places with shallow soils, and in all pepper-growing zones. It grows swiftly, yielding in the first year and peaking in three years, and a single plant can produce 4-6 kg of dried black pepper.
